The 2021 edition of WrestleMania was incredibly memorable. Witnessing more than 25,000 fans in attendance each night signified so much hope after such an incredibly challenging year for us all.
A year ago, I competed in a match against Liv Morgan at WrestleMania with only five people in the room. We hoped and prayed with the rest of the world that everything would eventually get back to normal. While there were no fans in attendance at last year’s WrestleMania, we broke viewing records digitally.
Over the course of the last year, we continued to persevere in WWE as we always do and give our audience something to take their minds off of the very challenging times the world is facing. Entertainment can offer relief in so many forms. In WWE, we kept going because we know that we have the support of our WWE Universe, who have been with us on this journey the entire time.
This WrestleMania weekend we endured rain but weathered the storm and adapted to the changes in front of us. It was so symbolic of WWE, our WWE fans and everything we stand for. There is no obstacle that will stop us from giving back to our fans. Forward is forward!
We saw so many magical moments take place at WrestleMania. I enjoyed watching Drew McIntyre and Bobby Lashley have the first match performed in front of a live audience for the first time in over 13 months. Watching Cesaro have his WrestleMania moment in defeating Seth Rollins was also so fulfilling to watch. Anyone who has followed Cesaro’s career knows that he is so deserving of a WrestleMania moment.
Winning the Women’s Tag Team Gauntlet Match with Tamina was also an incredible feeling. Our victory brought us to Night Two of WrestleMania, facing off against Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler. It was one of the hardest-fought battles of my career. Watching Tamina bodyslam Nia Jax had everyone in the stadium on their feet and left them wanting more! When I locked the Sharpshooter in on Nia Jax, it reminded me of how special it is to be using the same submission as Bret Hart. Bret has paved the way at WrestleMania for so many WWE Superstars like myself, to chase their wildest dreams.
What a moment for the women to main event WrestleMania on night one! Sasha Banks and Bianca Belair really brought their passion and emotion to the grandest stage of them all. I was so proud of the girls for being a part of something so historical and continuing to move our Women’s Evolution in WWE forward.
Edge, Roman Reigns and Daniel Bryan had an awesome match and main-evented Night Two of WrestleMania. Edge is a close friend of mine and watching him perform in front of fans at WrestleMania after a decade-long hiatus made me so happy for him.
One performance that really shocked me in the best possible way was Bad Bunny! He is a lifelong fan of WWE and has an incredibly successful career as a musician. I couldn’t believe how hard he worked in just a very short amount of time to realize his WWE dreams. While Bad Bunny comes from a totally different world than ours, he showed nothing but respect for the process it takes to compete in a WWE ring.
After every WrestleMania, a new year begins for WWE, but all of us will forever remember what a truly magical weekend it was. I’m counting down the days until next year in Dallas.
